BEREC contribution to the EU/Moldovan lower roaming prices

Since June 2023, the Co-chairs of the BEREC Working Group on Roaming have been helping the European Union and Moldovan mobile operators who signed the Joint Declaration on 30 May 2023 to set upper price limits for retail voice and data services when roaming in Moldova and the EU. The Moldovan national regulatory authority, ANRCETI, has supported this process. 

On 22 September 2023, BEREC organized a signing ceremony for the Joint Declaration signatories and welcomed the glide path that aims to reduce roaming charges in accordance with the Joint Declaration. 

According to this Joint Declaration, facilitated by the Commission and Moldovan authorities, roaming charges will become more affordable when travelling to both regions, with new tariffs taking effect on 1 January 2024. The Joint Declaration is voluntary and open to EU/EEA and Moldovan operators to sign anytime. It applies until 31 December 2025 and can be renewed after that date.
