Cookies Policy

The Agency for Support for BEREC (the BEREC Office) uses cookies for the technical functioning of the BEREC website.

The Controller for this processing operation is the BEREC Office.

You can enquire about the way the BEREC Office uses cookies by contacting the Controller at [email protected].

What are cookies?

In general terms, cookies are small pieces of data that are stored on computer or mobile device to optimise browsing experience, provide usability and statistical information of the website usage or for other purposes, such as providing visitor with a more personalized experience.

Cookie Types

There are different types of cookies.

The cookies can be differentiated by the period during which they are used and stored.

Persistent cookies remain on visitor's device for a set period of time specified in the cookie. They are activated each time that the visitor visits the website that created the particular cookie.

Session cookies are temporary. They allow website operators to link the actions of a visitor during a browser session. A browser session starts, when a visitor opens the browser window and finishes, when the browser window is closed.

The cookies can also be differentiated by the source from which cookies are provided.

First-party cookies are cookies set by the visited website. Only that website can read them.

Third-party cookies are potentially set by external website in case their services are used on the website (e.g. social media providers).

How does the BEREC Office use cookies?

The BEREC Office uses mostly first-party cookies. These are cookies set and controlled by the BEREC Office, not by any external organisation. The BEREC Office uses them in order to store visitors’ preferences. Every time a visitor starts a new browsing session and visit the BEREC website, a pop-up banner appears that gives the option to choose between ACCEPT ALL COOKIES and ACCEPT ONLY ESSENTIAL COOKIES.

If a visitor clicks on ACCEPT ALL COOKIES, it is considered that the visitor consent to all cookies. This choice is saved within the issued cookie. The following first-party cookies are placed:

  • Visitor preference
    • Name of the cookie: cookies-agreed (value = 2)
    • Purpose: Stores visitor’s preferences
    • Duration: First-party session cookie deleted after visitor quits the browser
  • Visitor preference
    • Name of the cookie: cookies-agreed-version (value = 1.0.0)
    • Purpose: Stores visitor’s preference
    • Duration: First-party session cookie deleted after visitor quits the browser

If a visitor clicks on ACCEPT ONLY ESSENTIAL COOKIES, a cookie is still issued but within the cookie, it saves a choice that visitor consent only to the essential cookies. The following first-party cookie is placed:

  • Visitor preference
    • Name of the cookie: cookies-agreed (value = 0)
    • Purpose: Stores visitor’s preference
    • Duration: First-party session cookie deleted after visitor quits the browser

Choosing to accept only the essential cookies does not affect visitor’s navigation experience on this website.

Cloudflare web performance cookies

The BEREC Office uses Cloudflare platform on the BEREC website mainly for the purpose of web protection, web analytics, and geolocation availability. Web statistics collected with Cloudflare enable the BEREC Office to prepare aggregated, anonymous statistic reports of visitor activities. Cloudflare itself can issue various cookies to maximize network resources, manage traffic, and protect our visitors’ sites from malicious traffic. Those cookies are strictly necessary to provide the services and they have different expiration times. For example, the cookie __cf_bm expires after 30 minutes of continuous inactivity by the visitor.

Social media cookies

The BEREC Office is active on three social media platforms: X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and YouTube, to strengthen our online presence and visibility for stakeholders and interested parties.

  • The BEREC website does not set cookies when displaying links to our social media channels when visitor browses our website. However, depending on visitor’s choice of consent, related to the external services used, some cookies may be loaded;
  • Visitor can follow links from our website to X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and YouTube;
  • Visitor can watch videos, which we upload on YouTube and embed on our website;
  • Visitor can view tweets, which we publish on X (formerly Twitter) and embed on the landing page;
  • By clicking on the social media buttons on our website, visitor will be re-directed to the relevant sites, which have their own cookies and privacy policies over which we have no control. More information can be found here:

The use of social media by us does not imply an endorsement of X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube and/or their privacy policy in any way.

Data storage

Anonymised and aggregated data is stored for an indefinite period by the BEREC Office for analytical purpose.
