On 19 November 2024, the BEREC Cybersecurity Working Group will hold the first of two stakeholder workshops to raise awareness of the main challenges in the realms of cybersecurity and resilience among national regulatory authorities (NRAs), operators and other stakeholders. The first workshop, primarily focusing on resilience aspects, will serve as a platform for participants to share experiences and best practices, fostering collaborative efforts to identify and address a range of pressing challenges.

During the event, the participants will learn about various national perspectives on resilience and coordination in the cybersecurity landscape. These discussions will be supported by a session on some concrete examples used to increase the resilience, as well as a presentation on the work of the European Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) on building up cybersecurity and resilience in the EU's telecom sector. The results of the workshop will be summarised in a report that will be later available on the BEREC website.

BEREC expands its expertise in cybersecurity and resilience of networks

In 2024, BEREC committed to enhancing its understanding of network resilience challenges in Europe, particularly in response to natural disasters linked to climate change and severe weather. Key areas of focus will also include the security implications of the emergence of new technologies. BEREC aims to identify effective practices and share insights on network resilience and security solutions being adopted across Europe.

A 2024 survey conducted by BEREC's Cybersecurity Working Group engaged network operators to evaluate security and resilience issues, including satellite system integration, protection of undersea cables and multivendor strategies. These insights highlighted priority challenges and risks to address as network technologies continue to evolve.

The security-related topics mentioned in this paragraph will be addressed by BEREC in another External workshop next year.
