BEREC continues monitoring the status of internet capacity, regulatory and other measures in light of the Covid-19 crisis

02 October 2020

On 2 October 2020, the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) has published the updated summary report on the status of internet capacity, regulatory and other measures in light of the Covid-19 crisis for the period of September. No major network congestions have been observed and NRAs continue collecting data from the internet service providers and the other market players about the status of their networks. In the report, several NRAs also provide updated information on the tracing solutions to monitor the spread of COVID-19. For example, in Germany the contact tracing app released in June has been downloaded approximately 18.4 million times so far. It is also reported that a European gateway, currently being tested, will enable the national contact tracing apps of the EU Member States to exchange contact-tracing data with each other.

On 19 October 2020, BEREC will hold the annual Stakeholder Forum. Among the other important topics, such as regulation of digital platforms and the BEREC Work Programme for 2021, the BEREC Chair Dan Sjöblom will elaborate on the telecom sector’s perspectives in handling the COVID-19 crisis. Due to the unpredictable epidemiological situation worldwide, the Stakeholder Forum will take place online. The registration is already open
