Board of Regulators elects new BEREC Chair for 2026

On 3 October 2024, as part of the 60th BEREC plenary meetings, the Board of Regulators elected the Chair for 2026 – Marko Mišmaš, the Director of the Agency for Communication Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia (AKOS).

Mr Mišmaš has been serving as the Director of AKOS since 2023. His extensive professional background is rooted in over two decades of industry experience. Prior to his role at AKOS, the elected incoming BEREC Chair 2026 held various positions in telecommunications, smart metering, and the automotive industries, most recently as R&D Director in the private company Iskra Mehanizmi and before that as R&D Director in the company Iskraemeco. Marko Mišmaš holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ljubljana.

After the elections, Marko Mišmaš expressed his gratitude towards BEREC colleagues for entrusting him the position of the BEREC Chair after the election by saying: 

“Thanks to our vast experience, continuous growth, and desire for new knowledge, I know that BEREC is more prepared than ever for the new challenges brought by sectoral changes, especially in the digital markets. I am aware of the responsibility, but at the same time, I am glad to take on the leadership in such important times.”

New composition of the Miniboard in 2025

During the plenary meetings, the Board of Regulators also elected the Vice-Chairs for next year. They will be part of the so-called BEREC Miniboard which is composed of the BEREC Chair, and the incoming and out-going BEREC Chairs serving as Vice- Chairs. The newly-elected BEREC Vice-Chairs are Alejandra de Iturriaga Gandini, the Director of Telecommunications and Audiovisual Sector at Spanish regulator CNMC, and Daniela Brönstrup, the Vice President of German regulator BNetzA.

The BEREC Board of Regulators also elected Liliia Malon, the Commissioner of NCEC, Ukraine, as representative of participants without voting rights to complement the Miniboard in 2025.

Appointment procedure

The Board of Regulators elects its Chair and Vice-Chairs from among its members for a one-year term to ensure continuity. Before serving as a Chair, the individual must be a Vice-Chair for one year. Additionally, the Chair must serve as a Vice-Chair for the year following their term as Chair. The Vice-Chairs and Chair are elected for the following year and the year after, respectively.
