BEREC Document on Mergers and Acquisitions

In its Work Programme for 2014 BEREC already recognised the importance of a proper economic analysis of oligopoly market structures and initiated some preliminary work in this area. In its 2015 Work Programme BEREC has paid greater attention to this topic and plans several different activities.

As a first step of the implementation of the 2015 Works Programme on 25 February 2015 BEREC will organise also a Workshop on Oligopoly Analysis and Regulation, which will be open for participation to all NRAs and stakeholders.

In order to stimulate the internal reflection on the topic, in particular by taking into account the recent market developments and some recent Commission Decisions on mergers and acquisitions, BEREC prepared an overview of mergers and acquisitions, containing a short introduction on EC merger law, followed by a short, factual description of three recent mergers in the mobile telecommunications market.
