Co-chair of the Open Internet Working Group

Christoph Mertens joined the German regulatory authority Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA) in 1998. Currently he works in BNetzA's unit "Net Neutrality, Platform Monitoring, and Artificial Intelligence" and before that in units dealing with Internet Economics and Telecommunications Regulatory Policy.  Christoph was active in the former Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications Working Groups related to Next Generation Networks, Next Generation Access, and Voice over IP. Before he came to BNetzA he worked in the economic policy unit of a large German utility.

Christoph Mertens holds a degree from the University of Paderborn, Germany (Diplom Volkswirt) and a Master's in Law & Economics from the Universities of Rotterdam, Ghent, and Hamburg.
